The Bridges for Learning Service Autism Diagnosis service adheres strictly to the NICE (National Institute for Care and Clinical Excellence) guidelines for the assessment of children with Autism.

We are fully compliant  within all parts of the published guidelines www.nice.org.uk/guidance/cg128 .

The NICE guidelines are produced for clinicians who are responsible for assessment and diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Conditions.

Our Multi-Disciplinary Team includes;

  • Clinical Psychologists,
  • Speech and Language Therapists
  • Consultant Nurse (who used to work for ADRC in Southampton)
  • Educational Psychologists
  • Trainee Educational Psychologists
  • Assistant Psychologist
  • Behaviour Therapists
  • Teachers experienced in pupils with ASC
  • Supervision from Clinical Psychologists, Educational Psychologists and a Paediatrician
  • Admin support for management of referrals and appointments

All our staff  have full membership of their relevant professional bodies and their regulatory bodies e.g British Psychological Society , Ryal College of Speech and Language Therapists .

 All our staff within the multi-disciplinary core team are registered with the Health Care Professions Council and have current enhanced DBS certificates.

Assessments are conducted within more than one context. We see a  pupil at  i.e. school/home AND at our clinical rooms at Denmark Road, Cowes.

We use 'gold standard assessments including the;

  • Autism Diagnostic Interview -Revised (ADI-R)
  • Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule -Second Edition (ADOS-2)
  • Neuropsychological Assessment (NEPSY-II)
  • Behavioural Assessment of the Dysexecutive Syndrome (BADS)

We feel very strongly that the diagnosis should not be viewed as an ‘end’ and our Multi-agency Team Neurodevelopmental assessment is complemented by our support services.

These include follow up work at a child’s school/ pre-school setting and sign-posting to our Associate Therapeutic Services including speech and language therapy, occupational therapy and psychological therapies. This will include; direct and indirect therapeutic intervention for the management of anxiety, emotional regulation and challenging behaviour.
